As you may know, STMPG, like other private preschools and ongoing schools in New York City, sets tuition per child at levels that are below the actual cost of educating our children. STMPG is an independent not-for-profit institution separate from the Church of St. Thomas More, with only a small operating reserve, so it is through family contributions to the Annual Fund that the school’s full operating needs are met. STMPG thus relies on the generosity of its families to help support the vital work of our school, from helping to pay the salaries of our beloved teachers to ensuring the continuation of curriculum enrichment programs such as Art, Science, Movement, Music and Spanish.
And the STMPG Annual Fund is more critical than ever now, when, in addition to providing a warm and nurturing learning environment for the children, the school has had to incur so many additional costs in order to reopen safely during this pandemic – from new desks for the children, to allow separation during mealtimes and crafts, to increased expenses for cleaning, sanitation and ventilation, to higher teacher-student ratios to accommodate the requirements of “pod”-based learning.
This year, with the added costs associated with the pandemic, the tuition gap has increased to approximately $7,200 per student. We are therefore asking that families consider contributions to the Annual Fund in the range of $7,000. While we recognize that not every family will be in a position to contribute at this level, we hope that every family will participate at a level that is meaningful to them. We also hope that some families will consider making contributions at the higher giving levels.
